Cats Stalking Corn
So much for Dr Elizabeth Hodgkins saying that she's "Never seen a cat stalk an ear of corn" when talking about the majority of dry foods which are corn based highly processed carbohydrates. These kitties beg to differ!
Hi Tracie....
I heard the conversation about kitties eating corn last week and had to send you this. Corn isn't safe at my house. They got up on the counter, got the bag open, pulled the corn out, pulled the husks down and started munching. We finally pull the remaining husks off for them. My little blonde boy, Rico, loves to bite into an avocado, and carry it around house in his mouth. He is just a nut!
Have a great day, love the show!
Mary from Minnesota
Oh, and Mary - Dr Hodgkins wanted you to know this:
"Make sure Mary understands that this is NOT normal behavior any more than a human seeking out heroin if they have not become addicted to it beforehand. Cats that have had lots of kitty crack develop the most amazing "aberrant" food predilections, which merely proves our point. My raw-raised cats won't touch anything but raw meat, they don't even like canned cat food, and wouldn't eat an ear of corn if they were starving".

Sagaponack Pair
These are the two feline representatives of one of DOG TALK's most devoted listeners, who manages to have a small ranch in Sagaponack, the newly-formed (Wall Street) village in the Hamptons.

Voodoo Bob
Voodoo Bob is originally from Chattanooga, TN where we got him at an art show about four years ago. We asked how old he was because he was so tiny and didn't look like he was old enough to be away from mom, but they kept assuring us he was six weeks old. He had been played with and handled so much that day that he slept the 2 1/2 hours back to Birmingham, AL in my husband's shirt pocket. When Voo was introduced to Annie [our German Shepard/Malamute mix] and Billy [our Lab Mix] Annie went maternal and took care of him as her own "puppy" and Billy would play chase with him through the house. Somewhere along the lines Voo has developed a joy of the game of fetch with pom poms and he sleeps in my husband's left armpit every night. He fell madly in love with out orange marmalade kitty Ocie from the start and is iffy about our calico Rose, and when Billy was his sickest with his lymphnoma, Voo would stay as close to him as possible to give him comfort and protection. He's a very sweet, very spoiled rotten boy.

Dependents Not Descendants
DONT WORRY,I KNOW THESE ARE NOT CATS. But they are the gorgeous and adorable "dependents not descendants" of Jocelyn Santos, the wonderful overall producer of the pet programming on Martha Stewart Living Radio, enjoying some gourmet biscuits I sent them from DoggieDelivery.com.

Sydney, Australia!

Maxine and T-rex are the most long distance Cat Chatters - their human Linda, also listens to Dog Talk with her Aussie Labradoodle, Pluto.
Epsilon Mu (Eppy) is an Abyssinian mix who has the ticking and chirpish meow of the breed, but not the body type! He's 18 years old! Eppy is pictured with his much younger "brother" – Clancy, a red Abyssinian who just came in and forced Eppy to love him. You may remember Clancy as being the cat who just can't get enough of Swiffers!
Here is 21-year-old Binky from Rifle, Colorado - still the apple of Drew's eye, after all these years together.

This is Shadow from Wichita Kansas who just turned 18 and has been Tammi's best friend since he was 6 weeks old.

Dear Tracie,
I listen to your show all the time on Sirius Radio. One of my co-workers, Keith, has a cat that I want to introduce to you. His name is Friday. The picture attached was taken in July of 2004, when Friday was 18 years old. That makes him 20+ years old. I think his story is worth telling you about.

In 1989, Keith was living in Chicago, Illinois. At his wife's work, they noticed this stray cat had been hanging around there for several weeks. The employees started feeding this cat so he obviously thought it was worth staying around. One Friday evening, Keith and his wife decided to stop by the office to check on this cat. When they arrived they couldn't find him, so they started calling "here, kitty, kitty... " Out of nowhere the cat walked up to them. Keith opened the back door of the car and the cat jumped in and rode home with them. This is how he got his name, Friday. He still lives with Keith today. When Keith first got Friday, he took him to the vet and they estimated Friday to be about four years old. In reality, he's probably more like twenty-two. He's living the fine life with Keith, even though he's somewhat deaf. He greets Keith each evening at the door upon his return home from work.
I thought you would enjoy Friday's story. Hopefully he can join your "oldest kitties" club.

Sorry, Cleo. We'll always love you as our first oldest cat, but along came Friday... and, well, that's show biz, honey. —Tracie

Kitties for Kiddies
It's great to have kids call in to Cat Chat, the next generation of caring and conscious cat lovers.
Jack in Kentucky is the youngest boy who has called in about his cats - he was worried about 3-year-old Sweetie throwing up and went right to tell his mother about switching to canned food. And her housemate Scooter will benefit too. Good for you, Jack!
JACKIE from Sacramento, California has the distinction of being the very First Kid Caller to Cat chat. She is 13 years old and is nurturing two previously-feral kittens, Annie and Dazzle.
RACHEL from Shoreham, New York is currently Cat Chat's Youngest Kid Caller, at 10 years old. Her cat, Hunter, steals her Barbie's clothes and runs all over the house with them.
Tracie welcomes any and all questions about cats AND dogs on both her live radio shows. Call in to DOG TALK on Saturdays from 11-Noon (EST) to 800-394-8830 or Wednesdays 8-9 PM (EST) to CAT CHAT 866-675-6675. (You don't need to have Sirius to call in!)
